Guillain-Barre Syndrome



Abstract
A 8 year and 6 month old boy was admitted to Hanil Hospital on August 3, 1967, because of quadriplegia, facial diplegia and swallowing disturbance. Two weeks Fricr to cr-,et, the patient was suffered frcm: upper respiratory tract infection lasting fcr a few days. Cn the day cf GCrri:.icn, rafIcnt mas erdCenly fallen down on the ground because of quadriplegia but conscioreness was clear.
Vital signs were in normal Imits. Neurological examination revealed facial dipilegia, ro¢¥gag reflex,., swallow ing disturbance, flaccid symmetrical quadriplegia, complete aboliticn of ter-dcn reflexes but preeervaticn of cutaneous reflex. Cerebrospinal fluid revealed cytoalbumirous dissociation phencmeron.
He had been treated with Prednisolone ar-d symptcrratically and recovered slowly and steadily frcm 10th hospital day. On 28 th Hospital day patient was discharged in state of walking and swaIlewing distulance.
About one month after discharge, in O.P.D., we fend t}at rcrrarkable irrTrcverr(r¢¥t cf r urckgkal signs were induced.
That is, walking and swallowing were possible ar-d the patient regained the furcticn of facial nerve.
